Personal protection distributor

Personal protection distributors (PSDs) are electrical distribution systems that ensure personal protection in electrical installations. They consist of one or more sub-distribution boards (UV), which are equipped with overcurrent, residual current and earth fault protection. PSVs are used in buildings and installations where people work or are present.

Personal protection distribution boards protect people from electrical accidents caused by overcurrent, residual current and earth faults. Overcurrent circuit breakers (RCDs) switch off the system if the current flow is too high. Residual current circuit breakers (RCDs) switch off the system if a residual current flows between phase and neutral or phase and earth. Earth fault circuit breakers (RCD-E) switch off the system if a fault current flows between phase and earth.

Personal protection distributors must comply with the applicable standards and regulations. In Germany, DIN EN 61439-1 is the relevant standard. This standard specifies the requirements for the design, construction and operation of personal protection distribution boards.
